Tips for Springtime Car Care
I thought I would share a couple thoughts about car care for springtime. I am writing this now because I am ready for the winter cold to leave us, and get into some warmer spring weather. Unlike the ground hog, I don't want 6 more weeks of winter!
Car Care ideas to do yourself
1. Check your tire pressure - Most people truly neglect their tire pressures until its too late. With most cars having low profile tires, its hard to look at a tire and know its low on air. Always carry a simple tire gauge with you and try to check the pressure at least once a month.
2. Check your car's fluids - Oil, water, washer fluid. Top off the washer tank with premix washer fluid. Its only about $2 and will save you when the April showers wash muck onto your windsheild.
3. Wash, clay bar, polish, wax, and condition - What could be better than spending an afternoon getting to know you car? Wash with a good car wash soap from Eagle One or Meguiar's, not dish soap or anything else, as they will strip any wax off the car. Clay Bar the paint to remove any oxidation or swirls or blemishes including overspray. Clay Magic makes the ONLY clay bar to use. Polish with a none abrasive polish like Klasse All in One or P21S Paint Cleanser. Then coat with a long lasting Sealant like Klasse Glaze or wax like P21S Pure Carnauba wax. Your car will thank you. Don't forget to condition the leather seats if you have them, they really need conditioner like LEXOL or Connelly's Hide Care at least twice a year, but better 3 or 4 times. Your resale value will thank you!
I'll be posting more tips to help you take care of your car this spring so stay tuned!
Until next time,
John

ProAm is building a track day Mustang LX 5.0!
Call me sentimental, but when I happened upon a lonely little 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 wasting away in a storage unit in Baytown, I had to rescue it. Like a little wet puppy stuck out in the rain, the car called to me to make it my own. I have fond memories of my first Mustang - also a 1989 GT - that I had more than my own share of automotive adventures in. I have decided to take this car, an ex-drag racer from the looks of it, and turn it into a HPDE track day car. I am tired of my buddys having all the fun, I am ready to turn a wheel in anger once again! I will use this blog to chronicle the events as they unfold.
About the car - Its basically a shell. It has a simple 6 point cage in it, and subframe connectors. No engine or transmission, and most everything else is gutted. Last weekend (when the pics were taken), we tried to load it into my trailer when we discovered the rear end is seized up. We couldn't get it to roll into the trailer. We tried some cheap dollies from a parts store but they broke after about 6 inches of pushing!!! Grr.. We will try again this weekend.
